YQSKP Learning Model
No matter where our young queens and kings learn, we offer structured enrichment. We learned during this past summer that in order to keep students engaged, they learn best with 30 minute enrichment blocks/transition. This amount gives students enough time to enjoy the activity, provides opportunities for peer to peer interactions, as well as allowing staff to get to know each student better.
Each day, we will start at 3:00/3:15/3:00 depending on if the student is remote, a walker or bus student;with a check in and a mini debrief. Students will have a chance to tell staff about their day and eat a quick snack while doing so. Students will receive their essential question of the day and will be asked to answer the question in Google Classroom or in the Zoom Chat. The essential question will be about the Open Circle topic or issues within society/current events. At 3:45, we will start our Open Circle activity. From 4:00/4:15-5:00pm, students will have the choice between two-three different enrichment activities. Each enrichment activity will last for about 30 minutes and then students will switch. At 5:00pm, students will have homework help or reading intervention help. Students will be divided into break out rooms for homework help for the next hour. Once their homework is complete, students will have the opportunity to play a whole group game with a staff member such as Kahoot or Pictionary. At 6:00 pm, students will log off and staff will say goodbye until the following day.
